Through a Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation grant, USD #333 was able to purchase two Wii Fit systems that are being used as part of an innovative and nontraditional way to promote physical activity and teach students ways to follow and maintain an ongoing healthy lifestyle.
This program implements a way to reduce cardiovascular risk factors and promote physical activity through a fun and innovative program incorporating Wii Fit.
Limited time available in the school day for physical activity will be maximized with age appropriate activities. Wii Fit will provide students with opportunity and encouragement to participate in new activities in video format. By using video games a broad age range of students with various physical abilities will be encouraged to participate in the program.
This program is being used in various classrooms as a reward system, as well as when inclement weather does not allow for outdoor activities. The program targets students K-6th grades. One unit is located in the Concordia Elementary School building (K-4th grade students) and one unit is located in the Concordia Middle School building (5th & 6th grade students).
