GOLD CARD: One ACT or SAT test registration paid for junior year and senior year. Completed packet must be given to Mrs. Sorell at least ONE WEEK PRIOR to the deadline in order to process the payment.

 

REQUESTING LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION

         make request at least 2 weeks in advance

         provide your  Student Resume with GPA, test scores, activities etc

         provide information from application pertaining to Letter of Rec.

CAREER QUESTIONS?  The DISCOVER Career Planning Inventory is available in the Guidance Office.  Results will assist you in making career choices.

SUMMER PROGRAMS - many programs available both in the state of KS as well as nationwide

MIDWEST STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM offers reduced out-of-state tuition at over 100 colleges in Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, & N Dakota. Info in Guidance Office

SCHOOL SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS – always check with schools you are interested in for specific scholarships offered by the school. Check the school’s website,  printed material, or visit with the college.

 

College reps to visit CHS:   Sign up in Guidance Office by 8am the day of the visit to attend.  These will be scheduled throughout the year so check with the guidance office to sign up as they are available.

North Central KS Technical School(Beloit) – Mon, Nov 17 – 1:00

CCCC Foundation Scholarships are now available online at www.cloud.edu  - select Prospective Students / Admissions / Scholarships / #2, Foundation Scholarships.  Read though the displayed list and check those that apply.

 

Academyof Hair Design, Salina:  one @ $1000 and two @ $500 offered – no deadline specified

 

NROTC Scholarship:  open to 11th & 12th grade -   no deadline specified

         GPA minimum 3.0, ACT minimum Math 21 and Eng 22

         100% tuition/books/fees + $250 monthly first year which increases by $50 month each subsequent year.

 

NFL  SCHOLARSHIPS (for students participating in Nat’l Forensics League)

Website provides clearing house connecting student & institutions involved in NFL programs.

RURAL VOICES CONTEST        - deadline Nov 15, 2008

         sponsored by North Central Regional Planning Commission

         submit original work in photography, video, or essay on “Rural Kansas…My Community”

         top three entries receive $1000, $500 or $250 plus recognition in EyeonKansas publication

PRINCIPAL’S LEADERSHIP AWARD  - deadline Nov 17

         top 20% of class may apply / each school nominates 1 applicant

         based on student activities, leadership, academics  / MUST show leadership

         100  scholarships @ $1000 each given nationally

         use for 4 year program (may start at a Jr College)

 

TOYOTACOMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline Nov 20

         100 awarded - $10,000-$20,000 for use in 4 year college

         minimum GPA of 3.0 + top 10% of class

         must have initiated or been actively involved in a service program addressing a school or community need.

 

WASHBURN UNIVERSITY – GARVEY COMPETITIVE SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline usually November – check w/Washburn

Ø  $500-$2000 annually

Ø  exam dates usually in December

 

DECEMBER

KU CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS  - deadline usually December – check with KU

         approx $3000 one time award  --  must meet two:   minimum GPA of 3.00 / top 20% / ACT 22 or above

         must be accepted in KU  by Dec 1 and the School of Fine Arts by Jan 10, 2007

 

SAE INTERNATIONAL ENGINEER SCHOLARSHIPS – deadline in December – current booklet not yet available but we have last year’s you may look over.  Many available with one application.  Various locations;  some university sponsored and some undesignated to use anywhere. A small processing fee is required.

 

KSU CIVIC LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline  usually in December

apply online through KSU website

1st, $4000;  2nd ,$2500;   3rd, $2000

 

KS SCHOOL SAFETY HOTLINE SCHOLARSHIP  -  deadline Dec 15, 2008

         open to KS seniors who will be attending an accredited college next year

         create public service announcements about school safety (violence, bullying, weapons, abuse etc)

         three categories -  30-second spot for television ,  30-second for radio , 11x17 poster

          three scholarships awarded in each category – 1st $1,250   2nd $750   3rd $500

 

AXA ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline Dec 15, 2008

         use for 2 or 4 yr school

         based on achievement (job, sport, extracurricular activity) and letter or recommendation

         $10,000 awarded to one in each state  plus $15,000 additional to 10 national winners

KS TUITION GRANT              - part of FAFSA process

         for use in Kansas private schools only

         mark appropriate box on Family Financial Statement  (FAFSA)

         grant amount set by KS legislators (currently set at $1700)

         purpose is to equalize tuition fees between public and private schools in Kansas

 

JANUARY

IMAGINE AMERICA  - Scholarship and Awards Program -- apply after Jan 1

minimum GPA of 2.50  - based on community service during senior year and  financial need

WASHINGTON CROSSING SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline Jan 1

         visit website for application & details – www.gwcf.org

         $1500 - $10,000 scholarship available for those who want to pursue a career in Gov’t.

 

 

ELKS “MOST VALUABLE STUDENT”  -- deadline Jan 11

         based on financial need, academics, activities and leadership

         awards 2 males/2 females at $4,000 each + 38 others at $600 each

         progress to the National level – awards vary

         submit to local lodge in Clay Center….Clay Center Lodge, 611 5th Street, Clay Center, KS 67432

 

WAL-MART SCHOLARSHIP  -              deadline Jan 12

         $1000 to area senior (area covers Wal-Mart shopping area)

         based on academics, extra-curricular activities, work experience, financial need

         must apply online

 

AM LEGION NAT’L HIGH SCHOOL ORATORICAL CONTEST (9th – 12th grades) –due Jan 12

         awards at local, state, regional, national levels

         8-10 minute oration on the Constitution

         Assigned Topic Discourse is 3-5 min on a pre-set Constitutional topic

 

EMPORIA STATEUNIV BUSINESS TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline Jan 15

         $1500 to incoming freshmen ($1000 renewable for subsequent years)

         for student preparing to become business education teacher

         GPA minimum of 3.00

 

VFW ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline Jan 18

         parents or grandparents must be active members of KS VFW or Auxiliary

         based on activities, community service, academics and financial need

 

KACRAO (KS Assn of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers)   - deadline Jan 20

         3.25 minimum GPA and a 22 composite on the ACT

         2 scholarships of $500 each awarded

         two essay questions on applications, based on leadership and activities

 

FEBRUARY

KU HIXSON AWARD    --  deadline Feb 1, 2009

         must show financial need or personal challenge/hardship

         10 awarded at $20,000 each ($5000 yr x 4 yr)

 

ESA FOUNDATION ENDOWMENTS/SCHOLARSHIPS  deadline Feb 1

         Academic requirements – 3.0 minimum for most  OR  minimum ACT 22

         may use at 4 yr college or Technical college

         several scholarships available  - you may apply for up to 3

R.C. EASLEY NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS   - deadline Feb 1

NAT’L HONOR SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP  - deadline Feb 4

         must be a member of NHS  --  application process handled through NHS sponsor

         250 $1000 scholarships (2 applications per school)

WASHBURN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS (GARVY SCHOLARSHIP)   - deadline Feb 4

         several state & regional scholarships ($500-$1400 per year) (some renewable)

         minimum GPA of 3.00 required

 

ROBERT C. BYRD SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM   --  deadline Feb 6

         minimum ACT of 32 – you will be notified if you qualify

 

KS BOARD OF REGENTS VOCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP (St of KS Voc Scholarship)  SPRING Register 2/6/09 – Test 3/7/09

         250 scholarships given @ $500 each / renewable in some cases

         for designated vocational programs at Vo-Tech, Community Colleges, KSU-Salina, and some 4 -yr schools

         financial need not a consideration

         Vocational Exams  in November and March  -  check guidance office for dates & info

         registration in Oct or Feb   (FAX not accepted) - $10 test fee

 

KFC COLONEL’S SCHOLARS  -  deadline Feb 10

         up to $5000 per year or $20,000 total over 4 years (must pursue a bachelors 4-yr degree)

         must attend KS college, may begin in 2 or 4 yr college

         must show financial need and have a  minimum GPA 2.75

         apply online – application available Dec 1 thru Feb 10

 

LADIES AUXILIARY VFW CONTINUING EDUCAITON SCHOLARSHIP  --  deadline Feb 15

         must be daughter/son of Auxiliary member

         based on financial need, community involvement,

         may use for college degree or technical career

 

COMMITMENT TO AGRICULTURE (Monsanto & Farm  Bureau)   - deadline Feb 15

         use for 2 or 4 yr school

         $1500 awarded to 100 winners

         ACT minimum of 18

         Family MUST be active in farming and you must plan to pursue education/career in agriculture

         variety of scholarship available from $500 - $10,000

BURGER KING SCHOLARSHIP  -- deadline last year was Febuary

minimum GPA of 2.50 with involvement in community service and/or extra-curricular activities

must work at job at least 15 hrs per week/40 weeks per year

financial need considered

may use for 2/4 year or vocational school

KSU DELTA CHI EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONdeadline Feb 15

         male freshmen at K-state

         based on minimum GPA of 3.0, scholarship leadership, involvement, service

KS SOCIETY OF CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS  - deadline March 1

         eleven at $1000 and one each at $500, $400, $300, $200

         ACT or SAT score considered

         must attend KS college

KU LEADERSHIP AWARD APPLICATION  - deadline March 2

         ACT 26-30 (31 & up apply for Academic Merit Scholarship)

         minimum GPA 3.00 or top 10% of graduating class

         $500 one-time scholarship awarded

         must live in University housing during freshman year

         must apply for admission within 30 days of receiving award

         complete activities form which is provided

         must be rec’d at KU by 5 p.m. 3/2 (apply ASAP as may be awarded as received)

KS GRAIN & FEED ASSN.   – deadline March 7

         use for any college / any field of study

         based on academics, motivation, citizenship, desire to complete education

         preference given to KS Grain&Feed members, employees,customers of members

NATIONAL FARMERS ORGANIZATION             - deadline March 8

         national competition

         3 top winners @ $1000, $750, $500

         must pursue an Ag degree

         based on involvement in family agriculture, high school activities, & community
