Superintendent's Report - December 2010
KASB Committee on Funding Public Education: I attended the fourth, and final, meeting on December 3rd, in Wichita. A draft of our recommendations was presented to the Delegate Assembly at the KASB Convention. I hope to have a written copy of the draft of our report by Monday night’s BOE meeting, and be able to provide additional information. (KASB indicates that it will be ready by the end of the working day on Wednesday, so if I have it you will find it in your packets; if not you’ll have it Monday.)
LCNCK: Superintendent Brian Pekarek and the USD 224 Board of Education, have discussed the possibility of leaving our special education cooperative and going to the cooperative sponsored by the Clay County school district. The director of that cooperative will be at our next LCNCK meeting, and hopefully more details will be available for the January meeting. This process includes many steps which begins with approval by the LCNCK Superintendents, and eventually requires the approval of the State Board of Education. LCNCK Superintendents and Administration will evaluate this to determine the effects to our budget and our services. In addition to the financial implications, one of the major challenges will certainly be the status of the shared staff.
AdvancEd Accreditation Visit: Remember that our Accreditation visit will be January 23-26. Please mark two important dates on your calendars. The first date is January 24th, at noon, at the BOE. This will be published as a special meeting, and the only item of business will be that you will be interviewed by the Accreditation Team. The second date is January 26th at 3:00 pm. Again, this will be published as a special meeting and the visiting team will give their oral exit report in the public meeting.

December 13: BOE Meeting
December 14: LCNCK Superintendent’s Meeting; Smoky Hill Superintendents Meeting; State Board of Education Meeting in Topeka
December 17: Radio Roundtable
December 21: Meeting with USD 333 Principals
