Orphan Train Museum Field Trip
By Brittany Maclean
The fourth grade classes visited the Orphan Train Museum. Some children had to live on the streets in New York because it got so crowded in apartments. Kids got sick and didn’t have medicine. They had outside classrooms instead of school buildings. Many didn’t have parents or their parents couldn’t take care of them. Orphans were put on an Orphan Train to go West. Some orphans from the train were adopted in this area. We are still learning about the orphan trains by reading books.
