Student Athletes Attend Leadership Workshop
by Bev Mortimer
On June 2nd, Concordia School District co-sponsored, with North
Central Kansas League schools, a Coaches and Captains Summit held
at Clay Center Community High School. Over sixty members of the
Concordia High School athletic/activity community were in
attendance. All head coaches, and students from each
sport/activity, were in attendance. Keynote speaker and founder,
Rob Miller, provided instruction and opportunities for coaches to
work together with athletes regarding leadership skills, positive
leadership strategies, and how to be a team player.
Rob Miller is the co-founder of the “Champions of Character”
program sponsored by the NAIA collegiate organization. His programs
are designed to instruct young people how to be leaders in an
athletic society where far too often spectators and professional
sports have developed a negative culture.
Concordia’s students and coaches were given high praise by Mr.
Miller for their conduct and interaction regarding the Summit. They
represented Concordia High School and the community of Concordia
well.
The following athletes were in attendance: Chelsea Widen, David
Mortimer, Chase Champlain, Jacob Schutts, Brandon Anguish, Trish
Wogomon, Rico McCall, Cassie Lowell, Corbin Goerdert, Katie
Johnson, Kaden Buer, Carlee Baumann, Blaine Newton, Dalton Skiles,
Kaitlynn Woelhoff, Josh Huber, Casey Zimmerman, Karly Buer, Gavin
Koester, Paige Champlin, Chelsea Monzon, Connie Harrington, Paige
Charbonneau, Dustin Schmitz, Mallory Gilliland, Leah Haden, Alex
Johnson, Jordan Mastin, Haley Walsh, Nathan Koerber, and Luke
