CHS Chemistry Competes at Washburn University
On April 3rd, eight CHS
students traveled to Washburn University to participate in a
chemistry competition. The team of Isaac Rothfuss, Jordan
Tholstrup, Chris Thomas, and Josh Johnson competed in the 5A/6A
division and placed 3rd as a team in a Chemistry Quiz Bowl
format. In the individual written test, 5A/6A division, Josh
Johnson placed 7th, Isaac Rothfuss, 6th, Chris Thomas, 3rd, and
Jordan Tholstrup placed 2nd.
Concordia High
School also had the team of Mallory Gilliland, Heather Bergmann,
Nicholas Hughes, and Katie Johnson compete in the 3A/4A
division. In the Quiz Bowl competition they finished 6th, and
had 3 of the members place in the top 10 on the individual written
exam. Nick Hughes and Mallory Gilliland tied for 9th and
Heather Bergmann placed 3rd.
The day
included a tour of the Washburn campus, chemistry instrumentation
demonstrations, and lunch provided by the university. An
awards ceremony, where students received medals and ribbons, closed
out the day.
