Annual Rotary Luncheon
The Concordia Rotary Club’s Annual Scholar’s Luncheon on Friday, April 25, 2008, provided a couple of very memorable moments, and a chance for reflection on why principals, counselors, superintendents, teachers and the rest of the support people in education really do their jobs.
Past scholarship winner Ben Swenson delivered a great address and offered very practical information and advice to the CHS scholars. He offered this last bit of advice: “Before you graduate, make sure you tell everyone who helped you get where you are “thank you”, including teachers, counselors, parents, and more. This was an excellent point and one that all of our kids should take to heart: a simple heart felt thank you goes so far in establishing a life long relationship of trust and assistance. Teachers will do anything for a heart felt thank you!
The Rotary’s big scholarship winner was Eileen Remley. She won a $1000 scholarship and had the famous “Eileen Smile” on her face the whole time! She won the scholarship the day after hitting a home run in our double header sweep of Republic County. When asked about the home run, she exclaimed that it was “over the fence!” What a great analogy for what the future of all of our Rotary Scholar’s may hold. They have the talents and skills necessary to succeed beyond their wildest dreams. If they use Ben Swenson’s advice and emulate the enthusiasm and drive of Eileen, they can hit one “over the fence”! Congratulations to our students, including the scholarship winners, and thanks to Larry Laas for introducing our students:
