November 2007 - CHS News from the Principal

I just got back from the Rachel’s Legacy Regional Conference at Cloud County Community College. Rachel Scott was the first student victim at Columbine High School, in Colorado. One of our senior’s, Witney Sorell, organized the conference and did an outstanding job bringing 11 schools and 250 students and sponsors together to work on the mission of Rachel’s Legacy: that if you look for the best in others, choose your influences, have kind words and practice acts of kindness, you can start a chain reaction that will lead to a better world for all of us.
As our students who attended will attest, our speaker Dustin Galyon was high energy, and brought a great message also. Leadership is a verb, and requires action. Talk is cheap; leaders act and get things done. Leadership can be extremely lonely, but if you want to make a difference in your life, your school, your community, you have to lead and not worry about those that want to sit back and criticize. Leaders surround themselves with people who believe in the goals and visions they have, and are willing to act on those goals.
If our secondary students combine the two messages, they can transform the school they have into the school they want. They know their school is great, but like anything, it can be better. Strong leadership by our students who want to make a difference, who want to make the best choices in our building and on campus, and show empathy and enthusiasm for everyone, each and every day, can result in a chain reaction which just might make Concordia Jr./Sr. High School the best school in the state!
