September 2007 - CES News from the Principal
Concordia Elementary School was randomly selected to participate in the Kansas Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. The purpose of this readiness assessment is to help provide decision makers with information to better prepare children for kindergarten in Kansas through policy and funding improvements. On the first day of kindergarten the program was explained to the parents and they could decide if they wanted their child to participate. The children with signed releases were then randomly selected to take the 20 -30 minute assessment. Each child who participated received a children’s book to thank the families for allowing their child to be a part of this initiative. As a district we will not receive any results from our participation but will have helped stakeholders make informed decisions about pre-schools and kindergarten in our state.
In September we will be doing a practice lock down with CES students. This will be very much the same as a fire or tornado drill. Students will be informed of what to do in an emergency situation and told that it is a drill beforehand just as we do with other drills. Please talk with your child about the importance of all our safety drills. Knowing how to stay calm and follow directions in any emergency is a skill that will benefit them in or outside of the school setting. Thank you for your support in helping us keep your child safe.
