Site Council Minutes for May 16, 2007 – Concordia Middle School Library
The May Site Council meeting was held at the Middle School Library on Wednesday, May 16, at 11:30. Those in attendance were: Becky Jones, Karl Stricker, Chris Fall, Brandt Hutchinson, Theresa Bonebrake, Laura Barta, Lisa Knapp, Kathleen Miller, Holly Brown, and Susan Ball.
Chris Fall reported that the Elementary School has gotten more than $27,400 for the new playground equipment for the third and fourth grade playground. This is enough to purchase all of the equipment chosen by the committee.
Chris also updated the Council members on the CARES dog project. Right now two people are going through obedience school with their dogs to see if the dog qualifies to be a therapy dog. The board has taken no action on this yet, as it is still in the planning stages. Theresa received a letter from a Springfield, Missouri elementary school that was very positive about the CARES dog program, and how it has turned around their “At Risk” school. Laura had also received very positive reports about the program from Abilene and Wellington. It seems to have helped a lot of behavior issues. Local vets and groomers in some places volunteer their services, and Lisa suggested a letter to our local vets might help us, once we know we have a dog.
Discussion was held about the issue of parental involvement in PIE. We brainstormed ideas of how to get parents more aware and involved in the organization. Some ideas were to write a letter to parents about PIE and sending it before enrollment, having a volunteer coordinator, and having a grade level representative present for each PIE meeting.
Elections were held for new officers for the 2007-2008 school year for Site Council. The results are:
President – Brandt
Hutchinson
Vice President – Theresa
Bonebrake
Secretary – Laura
Barta
Lisa handed out a Site Council Evaluation and Self-Review that she would like all members to complete and get back to her soon. Middle School members may hand theirs in at the office. Others may give them to Becky at CES who will get them to Lisa.
This was the last meeting of Site Council for the 2006-2007 school year.
