2017 KMEA District Honor Choir Chosen
22 students from the Concordia High School Vocal Music Department traveled to Junction City High School on Saturday November 4th to audition for the KMEA District/State Honor Choir. Over 500 students from the North Central District auditioned that day, which includes all high schools in Republic, Cloud, Ottawa, Saline, Washington, Clay, Dickinson, Marshall, Pottawatomie, Riley, Geary, Morris, Chase, Wabaunsee, and Lyon Counties. 17 students from CHS were selected through an individual audition process to the 2017 District Honor Choir. Those students are: Easton Atwood, Chloe Beims, Jenna Bloomer, Arista Bombardier, Isaac Bombardier, Xavier Christenson, Britney Gilkeson, Maddie Johnson, Rachel Kling, Madelyn Meyer, Katlynn Miller, Karmen Nelson, Kyle Palmquist, Tyson Roush, Elijah Steffen, Genna Strait, and Yancey Tantuico.
It is quite an accomplishment considering we are competing against schools like Manhattan, Junction City, Emporia, Salina South, and Salina Central,” said their director Kevin Johnson. The 17 students selected are more than any other 1A through 4A school. All 17 students are members of the CHS Chamber Choir and CHS Singers and are now eligible for the KMEA State Honor Choir, which will be announced in mid-December.
These 17 students will perform in the KMEA District Honor Choir on Saturday December 2nd at Manhattan High School. Clinician for the 2017 KMEA District Honor Choir will be Dr. Brian Winnie, Director of Choral Activities at Southwestern College, Winfield, KS. The concert will begin at 2:30 pm in the Manhattan High School Auditorium and is open to the public.
The Concordia High School Christmas Vocal Concert will be on Sunday December 19th at 2:00 pm in the CHS Auditorium.
